Receive revolutionary greetings from the ANC PEC led by cde Chupu Stanley Mathabatha.
We have gathered here in honour and remembrance of one of our own distinguished heroines of our revolutionary Alliance, the late Cde Joyce Mashamba.
We are here to reflect on the life and times of this outstanding and outspoken leader of the SACP, a versatile revolutionary and a colossal mind and a consummate intellectual whose leadership values signify unimpeachable integrity and unassailable credibility, a unique rarity.
Cde Joyce was an oasis of unity, an oracle of political clarity and reservoir of wisdom.
She led during difficult times of uncertainty. She was neither a coward nor populist, of course radical but not reckless. She passionately hated grandstanding
In order to appropriately commemorate her revolutionary life and her legacy, nothing will be more fitting for us to practice her revolutionary ideas, values and practices everywhere in our daily lives. The spirit of selflessness, humility and humanity to our people.
She taught us that the ANC belongs to its members and not its leaders.
You cannot be like cde Joyce if you still looking down on other fellow comrades and you suffer from VIP syndrome.
You cannot be like her if you are wavering in principles. CDE Joyce did not like populists and demagogues and she will not play to the gallery for selfish reasons because she was not self-centred.
The story of South African liberation struggle will thus never be complete without full acknowledgement of the pivotal role played by cde Joyce.
Great leaders and icons like all human beings live and die but what distinguish them from the rest of us is the immortality of their ideas, their teachings and imprints of their footprints. She was indeed a supreme scholar and teacher of the highest calibre.
The alliance can be proved of producing such leaders of impeccable character hence they have left us an extraordinary legacy on the sands of time on this earth.
Cde Joyce was a well decorated veteran of our glorious movement who lived and dedicated her entire life fighting for non-racial, non-sexiest, free and prosperous South Africa.
It was unfortunate that this country was robbed a phenomenal woman of substance, fortitude, great stature and sound leadership acumen. Through her vast knowledge, wisdom and political experience, she made a huge contribution.
It is through her tireless efforts that today we pride ourselves of modern schools, tarred roads, state of art health facilities. We pay homage to this gallant heroine of our struggle and may her soul continue to have eternal peace.
